Principal's Message
Mrs. Rocio Carmona

Dear Mission Families and Community,
Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year! It is an honor and a privilege to introduce myself as Mission’s Principal. Having been part of the OMSD family for over 25 years, and spending more than 23 of those years at Mission, this school holds a truly special place in my heart.
Reflecting on my journey here - from long-term substitute teacher, to classroom teacher, to assistant principal, and now principal - I am filled with pride and gratitude. Mission is more than a workplace to me; it is a second home. I believe every child can learn and deserves high-quality, equitable instruction, no matter their background, identity, or starting point. As a leader, I am guided by a simple principle: students thrive when we recognize their strengths, provide thoughtful support, and set high expectations
Over the years, I have had the privilege of collaborating with Mission’s passionate staff, witnessing countless students grow into remarkable individuals, and building lasting connections within this incredible community. I feel especially blessed when former students return as parents, bringing their children to Mission, or when Mission alumni graduate from college, achieve their dreams, and come back to share their successes.
As your principal, I am committed to creating systems that support both academic rigor and social-emotional well-being. Above all, my top priority is to serve our students, families, and staff by fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where everyone can thrive. Children grow best when families and schools work together, nurturing not only academic success but also social and emotional development. I know that schools flourish when we build a culture of trust, care, and collaboration among staff, students, and families. Through open communication, teamwork, and a shared commitment to curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking, we can help every student grow into a confident learner, capable problem solver, and thoughtful contributor to the world around them.
I look forward to getting to know each of you and working together to make Mission an even more inspiring place for learning and growth. I welcome your thoughts, ideas, and hopes for the year ahead at any time. I am truly excited for this school year and for the experiences we will share as a community.
Respectfully,
Rocio Carmona
Principal
